FAQs

Got questions? You’re not alone! Here are some of the ones I get most often. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, just reach out, I’m always happy to help.

  • We believe training should be fun – for both you and your pup!

We’re all about teamwork, trust, and tail wags! At Dogs and Bonds, we use clicker training- positive, reward-based and science-backed training that’s fun for both dogs and humans. Think shaping, choice, and clever games that build real-life skills and real connection. No “because I said so” vibes here. We follow the “Most Positive, Least Intrusive” approach, which means we focus on what your dog can do, reinforce the good stuff, and figure out what’s fuelling the not-so-great stuff (then change it up). Our goal? A dog who’s eager to work with you, not just for you because manners are way more reliable when they come with a sparkle in the eye and a happy heart.

  • Clicker training (also known as marker, operant, or positive reinforcement training) is a science-backed method used to teach animals just about anything they're physically and mentally capable of doing.

The "clicker" is a small handheld device that makes a distinct click sound when pressed. That click is immediately followed by a treat (or another reward the animal values). This communicates to the learner that they have done something worth repeating because it will result in something they want. Over time, the click becomes a clear signal that says, “Yes! That’s exactly what I wanted you to do!”

We trainers might not have magic wands, but the clicker comes pretty close. It turns training into a fun, rewarding game for the learner and it’s incredibly effective.

  • Every dog can learn. Our training is tailored, kind, and built to bring out your dog’s best self.
Yes, because we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all training. Every dog is an individual (just like their humans!), and our approach is tailored to your dog’s personality, needs, and what motivates them most. Whether you’ve got a bouncy puppy, a sensitive soul, or a seasoned rascal with some habits to unlearn, we work with where they’re at. With the right plan, the right motivation, and a bit of patience, we can absolutely make progress together. And hey, if your dog has quirks, welcome to the club. We’re here for all of it.

  • Great question! While every dog is unique, most of our clients start noticing real changes within 3–6 weeks. We’ll work together to build a personalised plan that suits your dog’s needs and your lifestyle. No magic wands here, just science-based techniques, smart strategies, and a good dose of patience (plus treats, of course).

  • I know pricing is always the big question! Here’s the quick scoop: My initial consultation is $250, and individual training sessions are $150. I also offer discounted rates when you choose a package, and payment plans are available if you need a little wiggle room.

That said, every dog is different and so are your goals so the best way to give you accurate pricing is to chat directly. Reach out, and I’ll send over a breakdown tailored to your situation, including what’s included and how we can make things work for your goals and budget. No pressure just clear info to help you plan!

  • We totally get it, hearing the price of professional dog training can feel like a lot at first. You're not alone in that reaction. But here's the thing: this isn’t just about teaching your dog a few tricks. You're investing in real support, real change, and a calmer, more connected life with your dog.

When you work with a credentialed, experienced trainer, you're getting more than just "obedience." You're getting someone who deeply understands how dogs learn, what motivates behaviour, and how to guide both of you through the tough stuff with kindness, clarity, and science-backed strategies.

Training affects how your dog sees the world, how they trust, how they respond to stress, and how they connect with you. That’s big. It shapes your relationship now and for years to come.

So yes, it’s an investment, but not just in your dog. It’s in your peace of mind. In feeling confident instead of overwhelmed. In knowing what to do when things get tricky. And in building a relationship that works for both of you.

  • After getting to know your dog and the full picture, I’ll have a clearer understanding of what will work best. If you decide to move forward with training, I’ll usually recommend either the Total Training Package a carefully structured 4-week plan with multiple sessions designed to set your dog up for success and steady and quicker progress.or the Skill Set Tool Box, a shorter 3-session bundle that focuses on building key skills to create a strong training foundation. This helps reduce unwanted behaviours, prevent new problems, and supports your dog’s ongoing learning journey.. Which one fits best will depend on the assessment and your goals.

  • Day training is like having a personal trainer but for your dog! I come to your home and work directly with your dog on specific training goals. You don’t need to be present during these sessions (though you're welcome to be!). Think of it like the good old board-and-train, but your dog stays in their familiar home environment.

You don’t need to take your dog anywhere; I come to you. This makes scheduling flexible and stress-free for both you and your dog.

Day training is a big part of the Total Training Package, a great option if you’re busy, need support building a foundation, or just want a jumpstart on your dog’s learning while you’re at work or out for the day.
